The first day of college arrived with a mixture of anticipation and unease. Sania’s only solace was that her school friend, Sana, had also taken admission to the same college. However, their paths had already begun to diverge—Sana and Sania had chosen different subjects.
This meant that, despite knowing someone from before, their academic journeys would now be different. They walked together for a while, but soon, Sana headed towards her zoology class, leaving Sania to find hers on her own.
The classroom was empty when Sania arrived, making her the first student to reach on time. She chose to sit on the first bench, staring at the vacant seats around her. A cloud of uncertainty loomed over her—she was still disappointed with her previous grade marks and felt lost about what the course truly offered or where it would lead her in the future.
As she sat there, deep in thought, a young woman entered the room. At first glance, Sania assumed she was another student. Just as she was about to get up and leave, thinking she had mistakenly entered the wrong classroom, the lady stopped her.
“Are you a life science student?” she asked.
Sania nodded hesitantly.
“Then sit, don’t go. I will teach you life sciences.”
Only then did it register—this was no fellow student, but Daisy Ma’am, the acting Head of the Department.
Sania still vividly remembered how Daisy Ma’am looked that day—dressed in a beige-colored suit, carrying an air of quiet authority. Meanwhile, Sania, with her braces and specs, looked every bit the typical nerd.
Before anyone else entered the room, Daisy Ma’am struck up a conversation with her.
“What’s your name?” she asked.
“Sania,” she answered.
“Your percentage in the previous class?”
Sania hesitated before responding. She had missed a distinction by just a few marks, and it still stung. But before she could dwell on it, Daisy Ma’am spoke again.
“Did you actually want to do this course?”
The question took Sania by surprise. How did she know? Could she sense Sania’s reluctance just from her expression, or was it simply a matter of experience?
When Sania admitted that this wasn’t her first choice, Daisy Ma’am responded with unexpected warmth and understanding. She comforted her in a very mature and loving way, acknowledging her feelings without judgment.
“Dear readers if you are enjoying the story please drop a like.
I will try my best to put one chapter every week.”
